Investigating domestic cat (Felis catus) predation on British bats, through the use of molecular techniques.
I am currently carrying out my MSc research project: "Investigating domestic cat (Felis catus) predation on British bats, through the use of molecular techniques". So far this research has developed a methodology for detecting cat DNA on bat wings which is simple to orchestrate, yet accurate and effective.
Data collected could give an insight into the abundance of cat attacks per year, a number which is currently unknown but estimated at 250,000 per annum. Also this research aims to give a total percentage of bat injuries which have been caused by cats, as it is approximated presently at over 30% total injuries are cat related.

Thank you to everyone who has participated and have sent me their contact details- the kits have been made and dispatched! Due to the large response I currently do not require any swabs from carers, and am therefore closing the contact form in order to process all the requests I have already taken.
Thank you for taking time to visit this page!
